About DAEJEON PHOTO
Formerly known as the Daejeon International Photo Festival, this year’s event rebrands itself as 2025 DAEJEON PHOTO, marking a bold step forward. The new name is a strategic choice to spotlight the host city, DAEJEON, and strengthen its identity on the global cultural map.
Held over 11 days starting June 5, 2025 DAEJEON PHOTO will take place across 10 exhibition venues concentrated in Daejeon’s original downtown area. A key enhancement this year is the addition of two new thematic halls—Thematic Halls 2 and 3—offering a more robust and immersive thematic experience.
As over half of South Korea’s population now resides in the greater Seoul area—and with more than half the global population living in urban settings—this year’s festival theme, “Cities and Humans,” turns its lens toward the lives of everyday people navigating urban realities.
The festival proudly features legendary names such as Weegee, a pioneer of photojournalism known for his raw coverage of 1930s New York; Michael Wolf, who captured the striking forms of high-density architecture in cities like Hong Kong; and Shinya Arimoto, acclaimed for his intense portraits that delve into the human psyche.
A total of 49 internationally acclaimed photographers from 12 countries, including 18 in the main thematic exhibitions and 31 in special exhibitions, will come together in Daejeon for this world-class photography event.
We cordially invite you to experience this remarkable celebration of photography, humanity, and urban life.
Thank you.
