The Daejeon International Photo Festival, the first international-level photo festival in the Daejeon and Chungcheong region, will be held in November at the Daejeon Artist House and 11 exhibition venues.
This year's theme, "Documentation and Expression," showcases the documentary aspect of photography, which is its greatest strength. It also features works by photographers who express their subjective perspectives and methods based on documentary photography.
The theme exhibition will take place across eight venues at the Daejeon Artist House. The special exhibition will be held in nine venues, inviting young artists aligned with the curatorial intent and selecting local artists to continue this annually. This year will feature a special exhibition of senior artists from the Chungcheong region, with plans to expand to artists from across the country in the future.
As part of the festival, the Daejeon Pet Photo Contest and Animal Photography Invitational Exhibition will be held at the Daejeon Expo Citizen Square Art Center. This event aims to capture the emotional connection and happiness between humans and pets, inviting diverse photos of pets and their joyful moments.

Yang Jeong-ae Selected as Artistic Director
The organizing committee of the Daejeon International Photo Festival, led by Chairman Jeon Jae-hong, has appointed Yang Jeong-ae, an international photography curator, as the artistic director for the upcoming festival in November. The Daejeon International Photo Festival is the first international photography festival in the Chungcheong region, and this year's theme is "Documentation and Expression." The festival will take place from November 13 to 24 across 11 exhibition venues in Daejeon.
Taking the helm of the inaugural Daejeon International Photo Festival, Director Yang Jeong-ae has experience overseeing international photography events and curatorial projects across South Korea, the United States, and Europe. She has served as the senior curator at the Wall Space Gallery in the U.S., an advisor and judge at the Griffin Museum of Photography, and a judge at the Glaz Festival in France. Additionally, she was the curator for the thematic exhibition at the 2011 Seoul Photo Festival and co-curator for the international exhibition at the 2013 Donggang International Photo Festival, as well as the artistic director of the Korea International Photo Festival.
Furthermore, Yang has made history as the first Korean to serve as a judge for the New York Times photography awards and the UNESCO photography contest. She has also been the first overseas editor for the prestigious German photography magazine European Photography. Her book, "Exhibition Planning for Photography," was published in 2022.
Director Yang stated, "While this is the first international photography exhibition in the Chungcheong region, I will leverage the extensive overseas network I have developed to ensure that it becomes a distinct and exceptional international photography event."
